Henna in Morocco

  Henna

Henna is the companion of women all the time and when especially on happy social and family occasions, and also to decorate the body and the freshness of the skin, she is the friend of the woman who barely gives up, which is the origin to which she returns despite the progress of the means of decoration and beauty.

Henna, on the other hand, is linked to some popular beliefs and customs that make it either a good omen or a bad omen that may harm women, especially girls and newlyweds, which raises several questions about this strong presence of henna in the imagination, mind and daily lives of Moroccans.

Health benefits

What attracts Moroccan women to henna is its great benefits from the health side, and in the level of natural decoration and freshness it gives the body, among these benefits used by many women in the mixing of fingers, legs and hair as well, it gives him the required strength, and it also treats the scalp of the problem of the cortex.

Henna moroccan women are also used to treat headaches and migraines, cracking of feet and fungi that take place between the fingers, and treating some tumors by kneading and placing them on them for a specified period of time.

 Henna Weddings

Henna's presence is most prominent in Moroccan society at happy social events, especially since the wedding or aqqa, for example, hardly passes without henna being present adorning the hands and legs of the bride and often the groom's hand as well, or the palms of the newborn, and even the attendees invited to these happy parties.

At Moroccan weddings, the bride is decorated with henna by mumps, a lady who specializes in preparing the girl coming to the wedding, decorating her, dressing her with halal and beautiful traditional costumes, and this mumps engrave the bride's hands and legs with henna in good shapes such as roses and sexy geometric shapes.

This night of adornment is called henna night, and only women from the couple's families are summoned together, during which the bride and henna are celebrated together, where the girl stays for a long time in front of the discussion that tastes her hands and legs carefully clearly until the artistic form of the bride's limbs comes out in the most beautiful view, because it is the night of life for the bride and her husband, so be careful to decorate the girl with henna appropriately and picturesquely.

The ritual of decorating the bride with henna is mixed with songs and musical mawaweel from the chanting of girls and women present, sometimes by a singing band that greets that night of henna until the bride finishes shaking her hands and legs with henna, while throwing coins at henna plates, which are usually next to sugar molds and eggs, materials that symbolize whiteness and indicate optimism for a happy life between the couple.

The same celebrations of Aqeqa Day when a newborn increases, henna is strongly prepared to adorn the mother and her child as well, and the wedding is similar to a mini wedding, but henna remains the most present weather in Aqqa.

Even on religious occasions such as Eid al-Adha, henna is strongly attended by Moroccan families, with many women painting the front of the head of the Eid ram with henna with optimism and blessings, and also on Eid al-Fitr, young women and girls paint distinctive forms of henna on their hands.
