Geographical location and administrative status:


The Province of Chefshaun is located in the north-west of the Kingdom, in the western countryside, i.e. in the west of the Rif mountain range, bordered north by the Mediterranean Sea with coasts of about 120 km, south of Townat and Wazzan, east of Al Hoceima province and west of Tetouan, Arash and Wazzan provinces. It is located on the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima side and has an area of 3,115 square kilometers with an average population density of 101 inhabitants per square kilometre.

Located at the foot of Castle Mountain, The City of Chefchaun is surrounded by mountain peaks such as Tesmalal, Bouhada, Mako. It is about 60 kilometres south-east of Tetouan. The urban area of Chefchaun extends over an area of 11.4 km2, including the old city, neighbourhoods outside the walls, as well as eye fragments and monasteries, and rural and unstructured neighbourhoods such as Grozim, Turgin, Noon Ben Ayad, etc. The Urban Community of Schavshawn is divided into three provinces. The urban community of Schevaun has a population of about 57,329, according to the 2014 Census of Population and Housing.
